Facts of Bhitarwar
From ancient Naga capitals to modern-day engineering marvels, uncover the unique identity of Bhitarwar.
The Ancient Naga Roots
Bhitarwar's identity is anchored in the legendary city of Pawaya (ancient Padmavati), located within a 15km radius. In the 3rd and 4th centuries, it served as the capital of the Naga Dynasty and was described by the poet Bhavbhuti as a sprawling metropolis where the Parbati and Sindhu rivers meet.
The town is home to the **Bhitarwar Fort**, a 16th-century masonry marvel built by the Hanselia Jat ruler **Raja Berajshah**. His brother, Laxman Singh, established the nearby **Laxmangarh Fort**, creating a defensive network that once protected the Pargana of Mastura.
